Manchester United star Scott McTominay has praised his midfield partner Paul Pogba ahead of a crucial showdown with Wolves.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men will be keen to get revenge on Monday night with the aforementioned duo likely to star alongside each other.
Pogba and McTominay have been impressive playing together in midfield throughout pre-season with Nemanja Matic seemingly dropping down the pecking order.
With United’s midfield sorely lacking depth, it’s likely Solskjaer will be relying on the pair to perform consistently and avoid injuries.
Playing against Wolves’ talented midfield is the perfect opportunity for the duo to prove their ability and hand the Red Devils the platform to win.
According to the club’s official website, McTominay said: “Yeah, you have to have a relationship with the player you’re playing with and we did have a good relationship on Tour throughout the games that we were playing when we were away.
“Obviously it’s about building that up and keep the relationship between each other, know what each other does and keep adapting to the circumstances that we had throughout the game and I think we handled it quite well.
“Yeah, obviously when you play with Paul he likes to get in the box and your job is to make sure that we are secure at the back and we’re locked in in different areas of the pitch.
“Obviously you have to remember and respect the fact that Paul is a world class player who can pretty much do anything on a football pitch.
“You have to adapt to sometimes what he does as well and the different runs that he might make and obviously adapt your game off that and if you are playing with someone else, you have to change that as well.
“Obviously, if you’re playing with Nemanja, Fred and Andreas in different positions like that, it’s always different with who you are playing with.”
Solskjaer has already publicly stated his belief that McTominay would enjoy a breakthrough season this year which begs the question on what the club are planning to do in the transfer market.
Can they still invest in a midfielder if the young Scotsman is performing admirably? It would certainly hamper his development.
Not to mention, United still have Pereira amongst their ranks and the estimated £50m Fred in reserves as well.
It appears Solskjaer has a lot to do to whip the whole squad into shape with weaknesses suddenly appearing all over.
