Reports in France have detailed how Unai Emery helped Arsenal see off a host of top clubs to sign Lille forward Nicolas Pepe (via GFFN).
It’s the most expensive deal in Arsenal’s history after the club today confirmed that Nicolas Pepe has joined the Gunners.
The 24-year-old has signed a long-term contract after an impressive season in Ligue 1 last term.
There were a host of clubs interested in the Ivory Coast international with Arsenal pipping Napoli at the eleventh hour to get their man.
Now, the French publication has gone into detail as to how Arsenal managed to beat some of the biggest clubs on the planet to Nicolas Pepe.
TF1 has claimed that the first-team football Arsenal offered Pepe ruled the likes of Bayern Munich and Liverpool out of the race.
Meanwhile, Manchester United could not raise the funds for the deal and the uncertain managerial situation at Inter Milan ruled them out.
It was between Napoli and Arsenal for Pepe in the end and the French publication claims that Unai Emery helped the Gunners over the line.
Emery reportedly sold Pepe on his record of developing young talent with the former Lille man convinced by Arsenal’s long-term ambitions.
It’s a fascinating story. There are many factors for both the club and the player when deciding which transfer offer to accept. Arsenal sealed the deal and got their target, something which the club has been guilty of failing to do in the past.
