Arsenal head coach Unai Emery has provided an update on Alexandre Lacazette’s injury ahead of next week’s Premier League kickoff (via Arsenal.com).
The Gunners put in a good performance against FC Barcelona on Sunday night but they had to do so without one of their key men.
Nicolas Pepe was left out of the squad but the player in question was Alexandre Lacazette.
The Frenchman lasted just 15 minutes of Arsenal’s match against Lyon last week and was left in London, something which Unai Emery spoke about in Spain.
“Hopefully he could be available for the match against Newcastle,” Emery said after the 2-1 defeat. “The doctors, they are optimistic. We are going to wait. The next days are going to be very important to see how he is going to progress with his injury.
“But I am really, really happy with other players also. If he is ready for Sunday, perfect. If he isn’t, then for the next.
“We need now to have a very competitive team, with the players ready forth next matches but above all to create a mentality to start strong and find our best performance in the next match.”
Let’s hope Alexandre Lacazette returns in time for next weekend. The Frenchman is a crucial player but for the time being, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will presumably lead the line by himself.
