Unai Emery has spoken about whether he expects Nicolas Pepe to make his Arsenal debut against Newcastle United next weekend (via Arsenal.com).
Arsenal fans are eagerly awaiting the kickoff of the new Premier League season, especially so to see the club’s new player.
Nicolas Pepe signed on a club-record deal last week but was not involved in last night’s pre-season match against FC Barcelona.
After the match, Unai Emery was asked whether he expects Pepe to play next weekend in the Premier League opener against Newcastle.
“He is training with us for two days only and today we spoke and it was better to be continuing working alone in Colney,” Emery said in Spain.
“Tomorrow we are going to do training together with us and I think each day for him and for us is information we can receive on how he can be for the next training and next match, but with him I want to patient and also see every day how he is taking the pieces and the rhythm with us and also to see how we can play with him.
“He is in the same situation as other players who came in the same days. For example today with Lucas, after a week of training, today was his first minutes. After two training sessions, I think it is best to keep training.”
Nicolas Pepe is a big attraction for Arsenal fans ahead of the new season. The winger is an exciting talent but is still recovering from a long summer. Pepe played for Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations over the summer and won’t exactly be match fit.
