Reports in England suggest that Arsenal may have to keep centre-back Shkodran Mustafi with no teams interested in the German (via The Telegraph).
It’s fair to say that German defender Shkodran Mustafi has been one of the worst signings Arsenal have made in the last few decades.
The 27-year-old has been inconsistent and hugely error-prone in his three seasons in North London.
It has been disappointing because there was a great amount of optimism when the World Cup-winning Mustafi arrived from Valencia for £35 million.
Things didn’t improve under Unai Emery and the head coach has reportedly agreed that the player should be sold this summer.
However, reports in England suggest that there has been little interest from rival clubs in signing the centre-back.
As such, the Gunners may have to keep Mustafi whose contract expires in the summer of 2021.
It’s a sad situation for Arsenal right now. Shkodran Mustafi is the most expensive defensive signing in the club’s history and just hasn’t been a success. Things are made even worse by the ongoing issues with Laurent Koscielny. Arsenal may have no choice but to keep Mustafi for another couple of years.
