The BBC’s David Ornstein has claimed that Arsenal will sign French centre-back William Saliba but that the club is on the lookout for another defender (via The BBC).
It’s a deal which looks like it is about to get over the line after Arsenal and Saint-Etienne reportedly agreed on a deal for William Saliba.
The 18-year-old is one of the most highly-rated young centre-backs in world football and looks to be heading to the Emirates pretty soon.
The BBC’s David Ornstein has today backed up this morning’s reports in France that the deal to take him to Arsenal has been agreed and will be finalised soon.
The transfer is believed to be in excess of £27 million, the majority of which will be paid off next season.
The 18-year-old will remain at the Ligue 1 side on loan for the coming season to continue his development.
Interestingly, Ornstein stated that the Gunners are in the market for another centre-back to reinforce the squad this summer.
It’s a hugely pleasing read for Arsenal fans. William Saliba is an enormously talented player who represents a good long-term investment for the club. The main fear surrounding this transfer is that it would leave Arsenal exposed at centre-back for next season. However, the fact that Ornstein has said the club is keen on bringing in another defender this summer is pleasing.
