Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante could miss his side’s first game of the season against Manchester United as he continues to struggle with a knee injury.
According to a report from The Mirror, the France international may be forced to sit out of the fixture at Old Trafford on Sunday 11 August.
Kante has been sent back from Chelsea’s pre-season tour of Japan in an attempt to help him focus on his recovery from a knee problem that has plagued him since the back-end of last season.
The former Leicester City star was expected to feature for the Blues in Asia but will aim to bounce back from his injury woes at the club’s Cobham training centre.
Kante is the latest name on a growing injury list, with Frank Lampard already working with limited options following the numerous blows sustained by Chelsea’s stars last term.
The Blues will be desperate to have the World Cup winner back in time for their clash against Manchester United, but according to The Mirror, his chances of returning in time are slim.
