Manchester United’s head of athletic performance Richard Hawkins has had nothing but positive things to say of the current crop of players this pre-season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have won all three fixtures they’ve participated in so far with hardly any of their opponents causing them any real trouble.
United have been noticeably sharper, more hard-working and overall fitter than they were towards the end of last season or any season during Jose Mourinho’s reign really.
Hawkins has revealed just what Solskjaer has asked of his players this season and it’s in line with what he told the press as well.
The former striker publicly stated a desire to whip his stars into shape and so far it seems he’s doing well in that department.
According to the Daily Mail, Richard said: “The work ethic has been phenomenal. Day one we had a meeting with the players and presented three key points that we wanted from them — to train with intensity, be committed to the process and when they have a chance to recover, to do it well, do it properly.”
Hopefully the players can keep up their form all season long as they failed to do so during the second half of Ole’s reign.
The Manchester United stars were noticeably leggy and lethargic which in turn resulted in poor performances as well as the campaign ending with the players failing to qualify for Champions League football.
Solskjaer’s intense tactics needs high fitness levels so it’s good to hear plenty of positive from the United camp over good fitness.
