Romelu Lukaku flew directly to Belgium after returning from Shanghai to hold ‘defining talks’ with his agent and Inter Milan regarding a potential move to the San Siro, according to reports.
The striker, who felt left out by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last season, is determined to work under new Inter boss Antonio Conte.
Inter’s latest bid of £54m was rejected by Man United, with the Premier League club determined to make a profit on the £75m they paid for Lukaku in 2017.
According to the Daily Mail‘s Simon Jones, the two parties will meet once again for ‘defining talks’ which could see the potential move accelerate quite considerably over the next 48 hours.
Lukaku did not play a single minute of United’s pre-season tour, with Solskjaer citing a ‘minor injury’ as the reason why the Belgian was not playing.
Conte, having failed to sign Lukaku in 2017 when at Chelsea, has placed enormous emphasis on getting this deal over the line as he considers the 26-year-old to be crucial to his plans.
Inter’s most recent bid was over £20m short of what United would likely accept, suggesting the deal is nowhere near completion, but Ed Woodward and Co. are reportedly confident that a move can be sealed before August 8.
