Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has heaped praise on Fikayo Tomori, Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount following the club’s 4-0 win over St Patrick’s on Saturday.
The Blues picked up their first win of pre-season as they eased past the Irish outfit, following on from their 1-1 draw with Bohemians on Wednesday.
Mount and Emerson scored the goals for Chelsea as Lampard’s side went into the break 2-0 up, before Olivier Giroud found the back of the net twice in the second-half to round off the scoring.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Lampard said this:
A lot has been made of the younger players we have here and, of course, they need to have the door open and know they can impress, like a lot of them did today.
You could see from the first moments that Mason [Mount] and Tammy [Abraham] and [Fikayo] Tomori were really at it and that’s what we want, we need to have competition within the squad.
We want to see these players and now it down to themselves to show they deserve a place in the team.
Chelsea are now set to face Barcelona in a friendly on Tuesday as the level of opposition in pre-season begins to increase.
