Frank Lampard wants to add former teammate Ashley Cole to his coaching staff at Chelsea this summer.
Lampard has taken charge of the Blues following Maurizio Sarri’s exit, much to the joy of many supporters.
The Chelsea legend is putting together his coaching team at Stamford Bridge and Cole is in line to join him, according to the Daily Mail.
The 38-year-old played under Lampard at Derby County last season, but announced his retirement after the Rams lost to Aston Villa in the Championship playoff final.
It is believed that Lampard sees Cole as the “perfect man to usher through the next generation of promising Chelsea youngsters”, at a time when the Blues’ two-window transfer ban means young players will get a chance to shine.
Former Chelsea man Jody Morris has already been confirmed at Lampard’s No.2, as was the case at Derby.
Meanwhile, Chris Jones and Eddie Newton will be first-team coaches and Joe Edwards is the new assistant coach.
