In what has been a roller coaster of a season for Chelsea’s Italian head coach, has Maurizio Sarri confirmed his return back to Italy?
Sarri has been unfairly criticised by the English press throughout his first season in England for his possession-based style football.
Even though it has been a season full of shocking results, such as the 4-0 defeat to Bournemouth, the Italian manager still managed to deliver a title for the Blues during his first season in English football.
The Italian coach won his first ever major trophy in his 29 years reign as a manager after he guided his Chelsea side to a 4-1 win over Arsenal in the Europa League final in Baku.
Sarri has already at hinted at a possible exit as he told Vanity Fair, as reported by Football Italia:
For us Italians, the lure of going home is strong.
The only major job vacancy open at the moment is the Juventus job after their former manager Massimo Allegri left his position back in May.
If Sarri was to leave Chelsea for Juventus this summer he would bring a totally different style of attacking football with him to the Bianconeri, who have been plagued of this for years due to their defensive Italian style of football.
Sarri also told Vanity Fair that this past year has been a struggle due to his family being so distant.
It was a heavy year. I began to feel the weight of distant friends, my elderly parents who I rarely see.
But at my age, I only make professional choices. The Neapolitans know the love I feel for them.
I chose to go abroad last year so as not to join another Italian team. This profession can lead to other paths, my relationship with them won’t change.
Loyalty is giving 110 percent when you’re there. What does it mean to be faithful? And if one day your club send you away? What do you do? Stay true to a wife you divorced from?
Sarri’s agent Ramadani is adding to the speculation as he’s apparently in London to discuss his clients future with the Chelsea board according to Di Marzio with the goal of “accomplishing the task of coming to an agreement on an exit strategy that will please both parties”.
