Derby County owner Mel Morris has reiterated that they will do everything they can in their efforts to keep hold of Frank Lampard this summer.
Lampard has enjoyed a great debut season in the Championship with Derby and has lead them to the Championship Play-Off Final against Aston Villa.
It has not been an easy ride and his managerial credentials were tested in the semi-final against Leeds United as the Rams were forced to come from behind before winning 4-3 on aggregate.
Lampard has been long-rumoured with a move to become the next Blues manager, but Morris has told Sky Sports that he wishes to keep hold of Lampard next season.
I am sure there are 40,000 Chelsea supporters that will be dreaming about that probably ever since Frank said he was going into management.
I know there is at least 30,000 odd local Derby supporters hoping that would never happen. It is inevitable Frank will always be linked with the Chelsea job and maybe one day that’s what will happen.
Frank here has done a phenomenal job and I bet there are a lot of clubs looking around, thinking Frank might be a manager for us one day, I am not surprised by that. It’s a compliment to Frank the way he has performed.
Current Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has not managed to develop the best of relationships with Blues fans during his time in England, and there are reports now linking him with a return to management in Italy this summer.
This has fuelled talk that Chelsea may make a move for Lampard to be his replacement in the coming weeks.
If Chelsea do come calling, it will be very difficult for Derby to keep hold of their boss as it is clear that this is a job Lampard would have craved since he left the club.
