Manchester United have received a huge boost in their pursuit of Lille star Nicolas Pepe in their bid to address their right-wing woes.
The attacker is being pursued by many of Europe’s top clubs but there was uncertainty over just how available he would be.
United have reportedly kept an eye on him for quite some time but it seems Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on bringing him in this summer.
The Norwegian’s current options on the right-flank are just Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata who are both not naturals in the position.
Pepe would represent the ideal signing and the Red Devils should do all they can to drag him to Old Trafford.
According to the Daily Star, Lille boss Christophe Galtier said: “Nicolas Pepe will leave. Life’s like that, football’s like that today.
“He is a player of the highest level who will have a big decision to make on the choice of his next club. There will be a battle between the great European teams.
“I hope that he will take good amount of time to think about it, do his research.
“Like he did when he came here and when he decided to stay here [last summer], find the right project.”
Though Lille are open about selling, they will obviously use the interest in Nicolas to drive up their asking price.
Considering the French side have secured Champions League football next season, Manchester United may have quite some work to do to convince him to join.
Pepe could be tempted by the wages he would be offered at Old Trafford or perhaps it would be the almost guarantee of being a regular starter that will do the trick.
Either way, United should at least give the transfer a shot and see whether they can win the race for the winger’s signature.
