Manchester United reportedly tried to keep Ander Herrera at the club but failed in convincing him prior to him confirming he will depart for free this summer.
The Spaniard’s contract runs out soon and now Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has yet another problem to deal with in terms of transfers.
It’s believed the Norwegian was given £200m for the upcoming transfer window and he is said to be looking to sign four players.
However, with Herrera leaving for free, Solskjaer will be forced into signing a fifth player and it will have to come from the aforementioned budget as United are unable to recoup a fee for the midfielder.
With Paul Pogba, David de Gea, Romelu Lukaku all believed to be looking for moves elsewhere as well, the former Molde manager could be in real trouble.
According to Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils offered Ander a £200k a week deal but were a little too late in trying to extend his stay beyond this summer.
It is a generous offer given the contract would run into his 30s and the club would find it difficult to offload him.
However, Herrera is said to have been upset with the lack of a human touch from Manchester United who allowed his contract to run out and only offered a new one incredibly late.
