The Guardian reports that Edu will take up the role once the Copa America has concluded for Brazil – the former Gunners star is working with the Brazilian FA and wants to see out his duties for the competition.
Arsenal’s director of football Raul Sanllehi and managing director Vinai Venkateshamhad reportedly wanted Monchi as the club’s technical director, but the Spaniard instead opted to return to his former club Sevilla after departing Roma.
Edu’s experience working as a coordinator with the Brazilian FA means he will be ready to take up this backroom role with ease for Arsenal, but it’s a move that’s come a bit out of nowhere.
Gunners fans will remember Edu fondly for being part of the infamous ‘Invincibles’ team – lifting the Premier League title twice and the FA Cup on two occasions.
The Copa America concludes on July 7th so Arsenal will likely be planning for that sort of time to bring Edu in, however that date could be brought forward if Brazil are knocked out in an earlier round.
