Chelsea want club legend to replace Sarri this summer amid Juventus links

According to reports in Italy via the Daily Mail, Chelsea want Blues legend Frank Lampard to replace Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge.

Renowned source and Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed that Sarri is the frontrunner for the Juventus job.

Sarri is heavily tipped to succeed Massimiliano Allegri at Italian titans Juventus. Former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is also linked with the Old Lady but Sarri is understood to be the first choice, with Inter being linked with the former.

Roman Abramovich could now part ways with Sarri and replace him with Lampard even if he wins the Europa League on 29 May.

Blues fans are becoming increasingly frustrated at Sarri’s stubborn refusal to adapt his gameplay and the return of ‘Super Frank’ would delight the home crowd.

Lampard is the club’s all-time leading goalscorer, netting 211 goals in all competitions. He is considered by many fans and pundits alike to be one of the greatest midfielders of his generation.

In his first managerial job, Lampard has guided Derby County to the Championship play-offs, winning a thriller against Leeds United (4-3 on aggregate) to advance to the final against Aston Villa.

The Championship side notably knocked Manchester United out of the EFL Cup on penalties after a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford.

Should Sarri take over at the Serie A champions, Lampard could provide the key in developing homegrown talents like Callum Hudson-Odoi, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Reece James.

Although there are questions over his managerial experience, Lampard has extensively worked with Chelsea youngsters Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori during his time at Derby County.

Lampard has been heavily linked with the Chelsea job and these latest reports suggest he is clearly very highly thought of at Stamford Bridge.
