Chelsea will not be keeping Gonzalo Higuain next season after they decided to send him back to Juventus.
According to The Daily Mail, Chelsea have opted not to exercise their option to keep him on loan for another season and will, instead, let him return to Juventus after the Europa League final against Arsenal later this month.
Chelsea signed Higuain on loan from Juventus in January, with an option in the deal to either extend it for another season or sign him permanently for £31.6m.
Maurizio Sarri’s side have chosen neither and will look for a new forward to lead their line next season.
Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi will both return to Stamford Bridge from their loan spells elsewhere and could stake a claim for the number nine shirt in the 2019/20 campaign.
Higuain has managed five goals in 21 appearances for Chelsea since his move, with his latest coming against Watford at the start of May.
