Old Trafford has played host to a plethora of mouth-watering spectacles over the years.
But despite the colossal permutations that rest on the outcome of Sunday’s fixture, both sides will take to the pitch suffering a momentary crisis of confidence, as two of the Premier League’s heavyweights look to recover from perhaps their lowest ebb in the 27 year history of the competition.
The race for the top four has failed time and time again to resolve itself with all four sides in contention slipping up when offered the chance to capitalise and cement their status among Europe’s elite.
Tottenham are the latest side to have defied the odds for all the wrong reasons, losing 1-0 to London rivals West Ham to leave them just four points off fifth-placed Arsenal whom themselves have lost back to back games against Wolves and Crystal Palace respectively.
As for the two teams who are set to contest tomorrow’s game, Chelsea were nullified by a stern Burnley rearguard on Monday before a second-half salvo from Manchester City resigned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s disjointed Manchester United side to their fifth loss in six.
Both teams will be looking to respond and send a message of intent to their North-London adversaries, although neither side looks to be at full fitness, with Ander Herrera and N’Golo Kante both doubts.
