Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has stood behind David de Gea despite his error in the 2-0 loss to Manchester City.
The Spaniard’s poor position and soft save saw Leroy Sane’s effort hit the back of the net to give his side the insurance goal.
Before then, Bernardo Silva also caught out De Gea by taking his shot early though some would argue that effort should’ve been saved as well.
After all, the goalkeeper was beaten at the near post and after putting in superhuman save after superhuman save, his inability to keep that effort out surprised everyone.
Solskjaer though refused to criticise David and instead insisted on protecting his player amidst all the negativity.
Ole: "David made some terrific saves as well today. It is every day work for everyone. He has high standards. When we are having a time like this we need to stick together, batten the hatches down and keep working. We have to come back fighting on Sunday." #mufc [Sky]

De Gea previously went through a similar distracted spell when his future was up in the air during Louis van Gaal‘s tenure.
At the time Real Madrid had come calling and so he was dropped until he could recommit himself to Manchester United.
This time the only distraction is over the negotiations over a new contract as the La Liga side aren’t believed to be interested any longer.
Either way, it’s unlikely that Ole will drop David, especially with just three fixtures left and United’s struggles not ending any time soon.
