David de Gea 4 – Helpless for two goals, pitiful for the other two: a near-post long-range drive from Gylfi Siggurdsson and a one-on-one from Theo Walcott. Lacked presence for both.
Victor Lindelof 5 – Played out of position and it showed. Lacked agility and proper decision-making.
Chris Smalling 4 – Far too often out of position. Performed decently against Barcelona but lacked any kind of authority here.
Phil Jones 4 – Once again far too chaotic. Static in the box for Everton’s first and not tight enough for the second. Came off at half-time with an injury.
Diogo Dalot 5 – Certainly gave plenty of effort down the flank but lacked the technical quality to create any openings. Lacked maturity at the back.
Nemanja Matic 4 – Miles off the pace, as expected. Everton targeted him and had Manchester United pinned back as a result.
Fred 5 – Had nowhere to go with the ball, with the visitors playing a 4-4-2 formation which precluded any possibility of forward momentum. Muscled off possession so easily. Came off for Scott McTominay at half time.
Paul Pogba 4 – Another away game at a mid-table team where the Frenchman looked outpaced. So frustrating to watch whenever he had the ball.
Anthony Martial 3 – Hardly touched the ball. Missing a chance in the second half was his only contribution. The 22-year-old has flatlined over the last month.
Marcus Rashford 5 – Did attempt to make things happen, sending a good effort over in the second half, but his lack of quality at close quarters was deeply frustrating.
Romelu Lukaku 3 – First touch was especially awful today. Absolutely nothing stuck to his feet, while Kurt Zouma overpowered him physically. A waste of space.
