Manchester United have reportedly enquired Bayern Munich over the availability of Niklas Sule as they continue their search for a top centre-back.
It’s been no secret that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are chasing a defensive signing but it their interest in the German is a little strange.
Sule obviously fits the mould of a player United would be interested in- young, plenty of potential and already ready for the starting XI.
However, it wouldn’t make sense for such a player to be readily available for Solskjaer and so he may be better off looking elsewhere.
There’s no doubt the 23 year old would add quality to the Norwegian’s defence but more realistic targets should be pursued.
According to Metro, Sport1 report that Bayern aren’t interested in selling Niklas and so a bid of more than £40m will be needed to pry him away.
The figure above doesn’t seem too bad given his quality but it doesn’t make sense for the German side to sell cheap.
It could be that the report is false and instead this is Sule’s way of getting a new contract with Bayern Munich.
After all, this has been his breakthrough season since displacing Jerome Boateng and so his desire for a new deal would be understandable.
