Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde has revealed that he was in talks over a deal to sign Alvaro Morata in January.
Valverde has said that talks took place, but Morata decided not to sign for the Catalonia club.
Morata left Chelsea in January to sign for Atletico Madrid on an 18-month loan, but he could have been playing at the Camp Nou if the talks had gone differently.
The forward has had a good start to his Atletico career, with four goals in nine La Liga matches for the club.
As quoted by Football London, Valverde said this:
It’s true there were conversations with him but also with other players. He signed for Atletico Madrid, he is playing in the starting 11.
Good. Here he was supposed to be the second striker, a different role than he has with Atletico.
Every player must think about what he wants. Sometimes there are just meaningless conversations.
We finally signed Kevin-Prince. We hope he can help us.
Morata began his career at Real Madrid, where he scored 31 senior goals across two spells at the club. He scored nine goals in 24 games for Chelsea before his move to Atletico this season.
