David de Gea 6 – Had strangely little to do aside from a few parrying saves.
Eric Bailly 3 – Had an absolute clanger from start to finish. Deployed at right-back and never got to grips with the positioning, allowing Paris Saint Germain to pour down that side soon after Manchester United opened the scoring. Completely lost Juan Bernat for his goal. Taken off before half time.
Chris Smalling 8 – Titanic performance. Looked 10ft tall at times. Put himself everywhere, producing important interceptions and big headers all game. Smaldini.
Victor Lindelof 7 – Ticked all the boxes: tidy in possession, astute with his positioning, communicated with teammates, kept strong.
Luke Shaw 7 – To see the Englishman so full of confidence – and fitness – is a glorious sight. Bombed up and down that left hand side with utter discipline, keeping his side remarkably tight.
Ashley Young 8 – Captain’s performance from start to finish. Threw himself at everything and made important interceptions, especially in the second half. Never stopped barking orders at teammates.
Scott McTominay 7 – Sent an emphatic message to his doubters with a resolute, mature performance at the base of midfield. Used the ball well and did not lose his head. Arise, Sir Scott McSauce.
Fred 7 – United signed Fred on the basis of his Champions League performance and the Brazilian duly delivered in Paris. Picked up clever positions and used the ball neatly. Very encouraging.
Andreas Pereira 6 – Used out wide for most of the game and did a reliable job, finding teammates and tracking PSG players. Would have liked to see him attack more.
Marcus Rashford 6 – His presence unnerved PSG. The pace with which he ran at them in the first half gave the French champions problems, and it was his shot which bounced off Gianluigi Buffon for Lukaku to score. And then came the penalty. That penalty. Historic.
Romelu Lukaku 8 – The Belgian’s stock has skyrocketed. Rounded Buffon to score in the first minute and scored again to claim a third brace in a row before half time. Also very effective holding up play and moving the ball forward whenever he could. Another player PSG’s defenders – Thilo Kehrer especially – struggled to cope with.

Diogo Dalot 7 – Came on for the hapless Bailly and immediately shored up that right hand side, along with offering encouraging moments going forward.
