Manchester United have reportedly chosen to extend Andreas Pereira‘s contract after his fine form of late.
The Brazilian has stepped up in the absence of first-team stars Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera.
Pereira was part of the United team who famously overturned a 2-0 first-leg defeat to PSG, winning 3-1 in Paris to go through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League on the away goal rule.
The youngster stepped up fantastically alongside Scott McTominay and Fred and it seems the club wanted to reward him.
The academy product’s versatility is surely going to prove useful given how he’s played as a defensive midfielder, central midfielder, attacking midfielder and featured on both flanks.
According to Football 365, Press Association Sport report that Andreas’ one year contract extension clause has been triggered as his initial deal was set to end this summer.
The former Valencia man still has some way to go in establishing himself in the starting XI but it’s good news that he won’t be lost for free.
The Red Devils’ board must begin talks however to extend his contract beyond just a single year so they can tie him down for the long-term.
Pereira could easily decide to wait out his contract next year and leave for free either way if he doesn’t get the minutes he’s looking for.
