Manchester United’s board has decided to appoint Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as permanent manager at the end of the season, according to reports.
The Norwegian, appointed as caretaker manager in December, has won ten of his 11 games and delighted supporters by restoring an attacking stimulus to the team.
Co-owner Avram Glazer travelled to Craven Cottage for Man United’s 3-0 win over Fulham over the weekend and spoke with both Solskjaer and his agent Jim Solbakken after the game.
And according to the Sun‘s Neil Custis, writing in an ‘exclusive’, the decision to appoint Solskjaer as permanent boss has been made by United executives, although the news will not be announced until the end of the 2018/19 campaign.
Calls for Solskjaer to be permanent manager when he took over were largely non-existent. Those murmurs swelled into cautious talk when Solskjaer rounded off 2018 with three great wins. Cautious talk then refracted into widespread support once Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal were beaten.
And now, having won 10 games out of 11, scoring 28 goals in the process, supporters are approaching a consensus over Solskjaer – and will become unanimous if he maintains such an impressive record against PSG, Chelsea and then Liverpool over the next week or so.
Ole’s at the wheel, and nobody – not even Mauricio Pochettino – looks like a better candidate at this moment in time.
