The BBC’s David Ornstein has claimed that Aaron Ramsey had no intention of signing a new deal at Arsenal (via The BBC).
After months of speculation, the news surrounding the future of Aaron Ramsey has finally been announced.
The Welshman has signed a big-money deal to join Juventus in the summer when his Arsenal contract expires.
He had always looked likely to leave after Arsenal reportedly pulled out of negotiations earlier this summer and now, the BBC’s David Ornstein has shed some more light on the situation.
“There are a number of people within the game who I speak to in the game who say that Aaron Ramsey had no intention of signing a contract at Arsenal,” Ornstein told the BBC’s Football Daily podcast.
“He was always planning to leave on a Bosman free at the end of his existing deal.
“A lot of people say, ‘why didn’t Arsenal sell Ramsey last summer?’ well, Aaron Ramsey would have needed to agree to a sale and there’s no guarantee that he would have agreed to that. What are Arsenal meant to do?”
It’s an interesting series of quotes from David Ornstein. If Aaron Ramsey had no intention of signing a new deal at Arsenal then there is very little more which the club could have done in the last nine months or so. The problem here is the poor contract management which plagued the Gunners during the last few years under Arsene Wenger and Ivan Gazidis.
