Cesar Azpilicueta has called Chelsea’s humiliation at the hands of Manchester City one of his worst days in football.
Maurizio Sarri’s side were taken apart by the champions at the Etihad on Sunday, losing 6-0 and finding themselves fortunate that the scoreline wasn’t even more one-sided.
The defeat sees them drop to sixth in the Premier League table and there are huge question marks surrounding Maurizio Sarri’s future.
Azpilicueta has been a wonderful servant to Chelsea, proving to be one of the most consistent players in the country in recent years.
Even the Spaniard was off the boil on Sunday, however, conceding a penalty after fouling Raheem Sterling and being tormented by the Englishman throughout.
Speaking after the game, Azpilicueta admitted he has experienced few worse nights in his career:

It is one of the worst nights in my career. It is difficult to explain what happened.
The first five or six minutes went well but that is not enough. It is very frustrating and disappointing. We are conceding a lot of goals and we cannot accept that.
When you lose 6-0 we have to accept we didn’t play well and made errors. We knew it would be tough.
When we won at Stamford Bridge it was because we played well and were together. Today was not the case.
All I can do is apologise to the fans because it is not acceptable.
Chelsea’s attention now turns to FA Cup fifth round action, with Man United heading to Stamford Bridge next Monday night.
It is a repeat of last season’s final, which the Blues won 1-0 thanks to Eden Hazard’s penalty.
