Chelsea will pursue Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino if Maurizio Sarri is dismissed, according to reports this morning.
Wednesday’s humiliating 4-0 defeat at AFC Bournemouth acted as the catalyst for supporters to start questioning whether the creator of ‘Sarriball’ is as special as they thought.
According to the Sunday Express, Sarri has been contacted by Blues owner Roman Abramovich, who informed him that he was not impressed with the club’s current performances and expects Champions League football to return to Stamford Bridge next season.
The former Napoli boss started his Chelsea career in flying colours, going 18 games without defeat at the start of the campaign, but stuttering form led him to state his players are “difficult to motivate.”
He watched his side thump Huddersfield Town 5-0 on Saturday to climb back into the top four though with a showing that must have tamed Abramovich’s doubts for the time being.
Pochettino is also on Manchester United’s radar, according to the report, with the Red Devils set to name a permanent manager in the summer, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s incredible start to life in the dugout has put him in pole position for the role.
Chelsea only appointed Sarri in July and will undoubtedly give him more time to find success, but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will certainly be ready for Pochettino’s suitors in the months to come.
