Manchester United star Ander Herrera has opened up on his future at the club with his contract expiration just on the horizon now.
His former club Atletico Bilbao have reportedly been interested in re-signing him for free this summer but nothing has happened as of yet.
It’s believed United are working on keeping the Spaniard on but are also busy trying to find a director of football and a new manager at the same time.
Whilst Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has done an unbelievable job so far, there seems to be plenty on the plate of executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.
Herrera has been in remarkable form since the Norwegian’s arrival with some fans even wanting to see the armband transferred to him from Antonio Valencia.
According to Manchester Evening News, Ander said: “I’m not going to talk about my contract. We have more important things happening now than my contract so I just try to perform.
“My priority is to beat Burnley, Leicester… and if I deserve a new contract, the contract will come. I’m not a selfish guy, I want the team to keep winning games, I don’t go crazy about my contract.”
Even if the midfielder is deemed as surplus to requirements, it would be silly to lose him for free and the Red Devils should tie him down to a new contract.
The board’s reluctance to buy without selling first means the club should attempt to raise funds from getting rid of excess players.
Herrera certainly doesn’t fit that mould and is currently a class above his competitors Andreas Pereira, Marouane Fellaini and Fred.
Manchester United’s board have been shockingly incompetent with numerous stars’ contracts expiring this summer.
