Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed in Friday’s press conference that Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku will start Manchester United’s FA Cup third round tie with Reading on Saturday.
The pair both enjoyed successful cameos off the bench against Newcastle, with Lukaku scoring after just 38 seconds and Alexis supplying a clever assist to Marcus Rashford towards the end.
Solskjaer also noted that Paul Pogba, following a nasty challenge from Jonjo Shelvey, was an injury doubt ahead of the game.
With that in mind, here is how we think Man United will line up against the Championship side.
Alexis and Lukaku, following such a prolonged period of misery under Jose Mourinho, will be chomping at the bit to ride on this upward curve initiated by Solskjaer.
And the same can be said for Fred, who has the perfect opportunity to thrive in Pogba’s role against Reading, who will no doubt opt for a low block.
He is a player whose strengths lie in moving the ball through tight spaces and producing quick interplay around the final third. United have done plenty of that under Solskjaer to good effect, and it’s about time Fred joins in on the fun as well. He is more than good enough.
