It was the news which many Arsenal fans were fearing but some probably expected when they saw Rob Holding go down clutching his knee on Wednesday night.
The centre-back has had scans on the injury in the last few days and today, the club has confirmed that he has ruptured the cruciate ligament of his left knee.
The report indicates that the player will undergo a rehabilitation lasting 6-9 months which will rule him out for the remainder of the season.
It’s a major blow for the Gunners while they are preparing for Saturday’s Premier League match with Huddersfield.
The Gunners have a host of other players carrying injuries but every one of Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil, Laurent Koscielny and Nacho Monreal is being assessed ahead of the match and could play.
It’s horrible news that Rob Holding will miss the rest of the season. He’s had an outstanding year so far and this injury could affect him for the rest of his career. Obviously, that isn’t always the case and there are plenty of players who have returned without complications.
