Arsenal’s head of recruitment Sven Mislintat has revealed why he advised Arsenal should sign midfielder Matteo Guendouzi (via Football.London).
His reputation is well-known in Europe for his scouting ability and the hope that he would bring that to Arsenal.
The German signed some of the most exciting players in the world while at Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal fans will be hoping for the same here.
Matteo Guendouzi is one such Mislintat-style signing and now, the man himself has spoken about the transfer.
“It was an important transfer for us because we wanted to show the world that we were still the old Arsenal which gives opportunities to young players,” Mislintat explained in an interview with Zeit.
“I saw him when Lorient were still in the French first division. I like Lorient, they always produce interesting players.
“Matteo stood out with his long hair and his personality. But I concentrated on his weaknesses, were they trainable? Matteo ran unnecessarily across the whole pitch, but I was sure that it was only a matter of time before he learns when to run.”
It’s an interesting interview and sheds some light on Sven Mislintat and his scouting ideas. The German is one of the best in the world at what he does and the early signs show that he has done it again with Matteo Guendouzi.
