Unai Emery has joked that Matteo Guendouzi should just cut his hair off after it was pulled by Marouane Fellaini on Wednesday night (via Arsenal.com).
It was a rather strange incident but it appears as if Marouane Fellaini will face no repercussions for pulling the hair of Matteo Guendouzi on Wednesday night.
The Manchester United midfielder was famous for his own flowing locks before he shaved them off but couldn’t escape the spotlight on Wednesday.
Fellaini was caught tugging on Guendouzi’s hair while attempting to tackle the Arsenal man and now, the Gunners’ head coach Unai Emery has had his say on the incident.
“When I was a player it was the same. Today, with the cameras, all the situations happening in the 90 minutes can be seen,” Emery said in his pre-match press conference.
“Some questions are, for me, between the players on the pitch. If it’s not a good action they can receive a card. On the pitch, the situation happened and it’s between the players.
“I think the best thing for the next match is for Matteo to cut his hair, and this problem is finished! Like Fellaini did!”
Emery later confirmed that he was joking with that last comment, stating “No, I respect the players’ hair a lot.”
It was a strange incident but one which should have been met with harsher treatment for Marouane Fellaini. The Manchester United was on the receiving end of a similar incident several years ago which resulted in a suspension for the offending player.
