Arsenal took to the field on Sunday afternoon with a much-changed lineup and hopes to keep their unbeaten run going.
Things didn’t look good when Danny Ings opened the scoring for Southampton with a fine header.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan pulled one back with a header of his own before Ings again headed the Saints in front before halftime.
Unai Emery made changes at the break and the Gunners improved in the second half. Mkhitaryan equalised for the visitors yet again after his long-range shot took a major deflection into the back of the net.
Arsenal pressed forward in search of a winner but that left spaces at the other end. Southampton broke well and Shane Long crossed to Charlie Austin to head in the winner late on.
