Unai Emery has explained why he chose to drop Mesut Ozil for Wednesday’s North London Derby defeat (via Arsenal.com).
It was always going to be interesting to see how Mesut Ozil would develop under Arsenal’s new head coach, Unai Emery.
The German playmaker signed his big-money contract less than twelve months ago but now, his position at the club is in serious doubt after missing yet another big game.
Ozil is fit but was left out of last night’s North London Derby and now, head coach Unai Emery has explained his decision.
“It’s a tactical decision because I thought that the players that were with us today were the best choices for this match,” Emery said after the game.
“We are thinking of every player. We have 24 or 25 players and when they are playing one game and not in another, it’s the decision. Today it was tactical.
“My focus now is analysing this match and also Saturday against Burnley is very important. We are going to assess every player, how they are tomorrow in training and for a difficult match against Burnley on Saturday.
“I am thinking about the match on Saturday, and not thinking about another situation.”
Mesut Ozil was spotted at the Emirates Stadium last night but it’s not a good situation for anyone. If Unai Emery is unconvinced by the player then it will be very difficult for him to leave. Ozil is on an enormous contract and there are few – if any – clubs able or even willing to pay what Arsenal are.
