Chelsea’s hopes of keeping Andreas Christensen beyond the January window have been boosted.
Reports in Spain suggest that Barcelona are closing in on a loan deal to sign Valencia defender Jeison Murillo.
The La Liga giants are looking to snap up a defender in the new year to fill the void left by Samuel Umtiti, who has been struggling with injuries this season.
The Frenchman is expected to require surgery in his bid to recover from a knee injury, leaving Barcelona short at the back.
Christensen had reportedly been shortlisted by Barcelona, with the Dane out of favour at Stamford Bridge under Maurizio Sarri.
It had been suggested that they could sign him on loan when the January window opens, but Chelsea are not interested in losing him on a temporary basis.
The defender has struggled to break into Sarri’s Premier League plans this season and has seen most of his football come in the Europa League.
