The Times has claimed the FA is planning drastic changes to its rules on home-grown players amid Brexit (via the Times).
If you live in the United Kingdom then it will have been difficult to not hear all about Brexit in the last few years.
The UK’s intention to leave the European Union is still in the planning stage but it seems as if the Football Association is also taking measures with Brexit in mind.
The Times has claimed that the FA is planning on limiting the number of foreign players each Premier League club can register from 18 down to 12.
Arsenal currently have 17 non-home grown players meaning that some changes will need to be made.
Matteo Guendouzi and Dinos Mavropanos are under-21 and therefore unaffected but that still means that three players would need to be sold in order to comply with the rules.
These plans are still in their early stages but it would cause a serious blow to some Premier League clubs’ aspirations. Arsenal would probably be able to get by just fine with the likes of Petr Cech, Stephan Lichtsteiner and Laurent Koscielny approaching retirement but other sides may not be as fortunate.
