AC Milan are plotting a bid in the January transfer window for Eric Bailly, who believes he has lost the trust of Jose Mourinho at Manchester United, according to ESPN‘s Mark Ogden.
Bailly was only included in one of the last eight match-day squads for the 2017/18 season and has only made two Premier League starts since August – one of which lasted only 15 minutes.
Moreover, the defensive pair of Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof have begun to establish themselves as shoe-ins under Mourinho, starting together in Man United’s last four outings.
And according to Ogden, AC Milan are keen on prizing Bailly away from Old Trafford in the January transfer window. Discussions over the Ivorian’s contract, which expires at the end of next season, are yet to begin, and the Serie A club will seek to take advantage of his situation.
Bailly is happy at United and retains the backing of most supporters, but sources have claimed that he fears Mourinho no longer trusts him. His miserable display at Brighton, coupled with the chaos of those first 19 minutes against Newcastle, has certainly led to Mourinho placing faith in the pairing of Smalling and Lindelof over the last few weeks. They have, at times, defended very well together, but Bailly should know that a chance to impress the boss is never too far away with the number of fixtures over the next two months.
