Manchester United will reportedly attempt to solve their defensive crisis this winter transfer window by chasing Kostas Manolas’ signature.
The Roma star has been a target of Europe’s elite clubs for a few seasons now but has remained in Italy so far.
United’s defensive struggles this season have not been a secret as they currently sit seventh place in the Premier League table with a negative goal difference.
To make matters worse Manchester City are in first place and have already got a monstrous point gap with 14 points separating the two rivals.
Jose Mourinho was chasing a star centre-back signing all last summer and was left empty-handed but he may have a solution this time around.
According to The Hard Tackle, The Sun report that Kostas has a release clause of just £32m and the Red Devils are keen on triggering it this January.
That type of money represents a bargain in modern football and the Greek centre-back is certainly an upgrade on Mourinho’s current options.
The Manchester United board were reportedly reluctant on shelling out huge fees for ‘past their prime’ stars so Manolas would represent the ideal signing.
Whether it’s enough to convince them to invest in the defender or not remains to be seen but fans are running out of patience.
