Juventus are keen to complete the signing of Juan Mata on a free transfer next summer, according to reports.
The Spaniard, who joined Manchester United in January 2014, will be free to speak with other clubs in January ahead of his deal expiring in the summer.
It is not clear as to whether the club wants to extend Mata’s deal beyond this season. They have already tied up the future of Luke Shaw and are actively working on deals for David de Gea, Anthony Martial and Ander Herrera.
According to the London Evening Standard‘s James Robson, Juventus have pinpointed Mata as an ideal player to sign for free in the summer.
The Old Lady has made a habit of completing shrewd free transfers. The likes of Dani Alves, Andrea Pirlo, Emre Can, Sami Khedira and Patrice Evra have all succeeded in Turin and did not cost the club a penny to sign.
Mourinho, according to the report, values Mata’s influence in the dressing room and does not want him to leave next summer. But the prospect of playing in Serie A, a slower league which relies more on technique, may be tempting for a player who has played in England since 2011.
