Jose Mourinho has insisted he doesn’t know anything about reports suggesting Chris Smalling is in line for a new contract at Manchester United.
Reports have suggested that Man United were keen to renew Smalling’s contract instead of triggering a 12 month extension on his current deal in June.
The Englishman has started ten of United’s 12 Premier League games this season and was a regular for Jose Mourinho last season.
But the boss, who certainly trusts Smalling, said in Friday’s press conference that he had no idea about any developments in the player’s contract situation.
Bizarre. Jose Mourinho asked if Chris Smalling has opened contract talks over a new deal: ""I don't know, honestly I don't." #mufc

A number of reports have emerged in the last few weeks detailing attempts by the club to nail down the futures of certain players.
Anthony Martial and David de Gea are the ones which matter most, although talk of contracts for the pair has gone quiet.
The likes of Ander Herrera, Juan Mata, Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia and Marcus Rashford, on the other hand, have all been mentioned frequently. With so many players entering the final year of their deals, you suspect United’s frame of focus is primarily on securing the players they already have as opposed to looking for new ones.
