Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea will be hoping to make it 10 games unbeaten as the Blues face off against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge (4pm).
Chelsea have been on fine form under new boss Sarri after the Italian’s long awaited arrival in the Summer winning seven and drawing three as the Blues became one of just three teams to keep a unbeaten record so far.
Meanwhile their opponents in Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace have had a tougher start to the season winning just two with the addition of two draws and six losses to their name.
Hodgson can owe his side’s 14th place position in part to former Manchester United man Wilfried Zaha who is undoubtedly the Prince of the Palace. Scoring three goals so far this term, the Ivorian international has been integral to the success at Selhurst park.
Team news
After a mid-week clash in the Carabao Cup against Derby County expect Ruben-Loftus Cheek, who has had a impressive string of games under Sarri to sit out against his former club despite scoring 4 goals in just 3 appearances.
Meanwhile the only doubt for the game is Eden Hazard, with the Belgian missing the Blues last two games via a back strain. Expect the Belgian to feature, albeit as a cameo appearance rather than the usual Eden Hazard show.
But the injury room is starting to get pretty full for the South London based Crystal Palace with Christian Benteke (Knee), Conor Wickham (Thigh), Dann (fitness) and Danny Ward (thigh) all set to miss the game via long term injuries.
To add to Hodgson’s woes midfield duo Macarthur and Kouyate could still miss the game via knocks sustained in training. But it is the status of Wilfried Zaha that has the South Londoners the most worried with the 25 year-old missing ‘The Eagles’ mid-week clash against Middlesbrough via a shoulder injury.
History
In 62 meetings between the pair it is the Blues that best the superior record winning 25 games to Palace’s 12, with 15 draws in the process.
Despite a clear advantage in terms of financial power and players Chelsea have only won once in the last three outings between the two London based clubs with the Palace emerging the victors in both meetings in 2017.
While Chelsea did go on to win the last West London V South London derby in a 2-1 victory at Stamford Bridge expect Crystal Palace, who last drew 2-2 with title contending Arsenal to prove a challenge for Sarri and co.
