Manchester United chiefs have grown “angry” with Jose Mourinho over his frequent public outbursts since the summer, according to reports.
The 55-year-old has cut an icy, irascible figure ever since a frustrating pre-season and transfer window – a mood which has since percolated through to the team.
His comments on Paul Pogba’s performances at the World Cup and angry tirade after losing 3-0 to Tottenham Hotspur last month, during which he shouted “respect” to journalists, form part of a much wider tapestry of public outbursts which have coincided with Man United’s descent into chaos.
According to the Mirror‘s John Cross, senior figures at Old Trafford believe Mourinho’s attacks on players and the club are creating a negative atmosphere in the dressing room – you could say that again – and that its perpetration has turned a bad run of results into a full-blown crisis.
The club, according to this report, views Mourinho’s behaviour as unnecessary given how early it is in the 2018/19 season. There is still a belief that a run of results would change the complexion of things for the better.
What United chiefs don’t seem to realise is that this Mourinho – bitter, provocative, unpredictable, seemingly trying to get the sack – only emerges once his dressing room is past the point of no return.
