Jose Mourinho is determined to carry on at Manchester United but has privately expressed concerns over the lack of support he has received from the club’s board in recent weeks, according to reports.
The 55-year-old’s position at Old Trafford is under enormous scrutiny after failing to win any of his last four matches, with Tuesday’s 0-0 draw with Valencia marking almost two months since Man United last won a home game.
Mourinho’s ongoing feud with Paul Pogba and continued public criticism of particular players has culminated in members of the squad losing belief in their manager.
But according to the Times‘ Paul Hirst, Mourinho is keen to stay on as manager but feels concerned by the lack of outward support from the board amid criticism from the likes of Paul Scholes, Rio Ferdinand, and the wider footballing world.
The report also states that Mourinho is disappointed with United’s failure to back him in the power struggle with Pogba over the last few weeks.
Woodward did, not so long ago, note in an investors call that he was determined to bolster United and Mourinho’s trophy collection this season, but the chairman has allowed for something of a circus to develop around the club. Stories are coming out about this club every day which reflect poorly on Mourinho, who must feel as if the axe is not too far away.
