Having pulled-out of a deal to re-sign Aaron Ramsey, at least for the time being, manager Unai Emery faces the challenge of signing his own midfield replacement in 2019 – be that in January or next summer.
Now according to multiple sources including The Sun, Arsenal are monitoring the availability of Thomas Partay, a Ghanaian international currently playing at Atletico Madrid – albeit in a bit part role for Diego Simeone’s side.
Despite not playing full 90 minute games for Atletico Madrid, Thomas Partey has impressed when called-upon, scoring once and assisting twice this season.
The report suggests that Unai Emery is long-term admirer of the midfielder, who has a different style to that of Aaron Ramsey, but his workrate and impressive performances when played make him a top target of the Gunners Spanish boss.
Last season Thomas Partey made over 50 appearances for Atletico Madrid, and coincidentally came up against Arsenal twice in the Europa League semi-final ties, which of course the La Liga club went on to win against Marseille in the final.
Having been in Madrid since 2015, the timing could be perfect with Emery knowing the qualities of Partey and the imminent departure of Aaron Ramsey, leaving a hole to be filled in the midfield – and that could naturally filled by the arrival of the 17-time capped Ghanaian international.
