Manchester United and Tottenham are reportedly plotting £40 million moves to sign former Chelsea defender Nathan Ake from Bournemouth.
The Daily Star reports that the Dutch international is on both club’s radar as they seek to strengthen defensively in January.
Ake has impressed since joining Bournemouth on a permanent transfer from Chelsea and his development has not gone unnoticed.
This could potentially be big news for Chelsea, who do hold a buy-back clause as part of the deal that sent him to Bournemouth.
After being on the fringes of the first-team squad under Antonio Conte, Ake asked to leave the club to play regularly. He re-joined Bournemouth after an impressive loan spell with Eddie Howe’s side.
It is unclear on the fee that Chelsea would be required to pay, but reports have suggested it could be around the £40 million mark.
Chelsea have been looking to prevent future transfer mishaps by adding in buy-back clauses when selling players.
Traditionally with buy-back clauses, the previous selling team has the first refusal, meaning Chelsea are likely to be alerted by Bournemouth if and when an official bid is made.
