The Manchester United board have not sounded out any potential candidates to replace current manager Jose Mourinho.
The Telegraph reports that, contrary to other rumours, Man United have not made contact with Zinedine Zidane nor any other managers with regards to replacing Mourinho.
Zidane’s agent recently denied that he’d be interested in the United job, claiming that he wouldn’t manage in English football but could take a job in Italy at his former-club Juventus.
Mourinho went into this weekend under great pressure after a report on Friday evening from The Mirror’s David McDonnell suggested that the Portuguese coach would be sacked regardless of the result against Newcastle United.
As it turns out, Mourinho saw his United side fight back from two goals down against the Magpies to secure an epic 3-2 win on Saturday evening.
Whether that result and performance has given Mourinho a lifeline is not known. However, the Telegraph claim that Mourinho is not in immediate danger of being sacked at the moment.
The 55-year-old remains under media pressure, though, and wants the club’s board to give him public backing in the coming week.
United’s managing director, Richard Arnold, is said to have warmly embraced Mourinho in the tunnel after Saturday’s sensational win against Newcastle.
For the third time this season, United had conceded two goals in the space of three minutes and it looked like the final nail in the coffin for Mourinho. But second half goals from Juan Mata, Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez secured three points and a huge boost for the Reds.
