Manchester United are eyeing a move for young West Ham goalkeeper Nathan Trott.
However, they’re not alone in a possible pursuit of the 19-year-old, who is also being tracked by Man United’s geographical and competitive rivals Manchester City, according to West Ham website Claretandhugh.info.
Trott signed for West Ham in the summer of 2017 but has already made his mark on those who have watched him play for the Hammers.
It’s not just West Ham fans who have seen Trott play, though, as he was also part of the victorious England side that won the Under-19 European Championships last summer.
Trott is drawing the attention of United and City as well as German Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, a club who focus heavily on bringing in young talent and developing them to sell them at a much higher fee.
A number of young talents across Europe have moved to Leipzig for first team chances. Meanwhile, a number of English youth internationals have moved to the Bundesliga in search of the same thing. Jadon Sancho is the most high-profile example, with the ex-Man City player flourishing in Germany while in action for Borussia Dortmund.
This is a different situation whereby big clubs want to sign Trott rather than he wants to leave a big club to find first team football.
However, Trott’s deal at the London Stadium does expire in 18 months time, meaning he’d be available for a deal without a transfer fee then. A number of clubs tried to sign the Englishman on loan in the summer but were pushed back by West Ham, for whom he is now third choice goalkeeper.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side are desperate to ensure Trott’s long-term future is at West Ham and want him to sign a new deal.
