Jose Mourinho retains the backing of Manchester United’s board but the next seven games are key to the 55-year-old’s future at Old Trafford, according to reports.
The 55-year-old is under considerable pressure having failed to win any of his last four games, suffering poor defeats to Derby County and West Ham United in the process.
Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand are among many close to the club who think Mourinho no longer deserves to be Man United manager.
But according to the Daily Mail‘s Mike Keegan, there is currently no temptation to pull the trigger on Mourinho among senior figures at Old Trafford.
However, the next seven games are said to be decisive for determining whether Mourinho is the right man for the role going forward.
The 55-year-old therefore needs to impress against these opponents to save his United career: Newcastle United at home, Chelsea away, Juventus twice, Everton away, AFC Bournemouth at home, and Manchester City away – game number seven.
If the worst happens – which is incredibly likely – Mourinho’s time at United could be ended by a pumping at the hands of long-time nemesis Pep Guardiola at the Ethiad stadium. It would be a fittingly depressing way to end a miserable 2018 under the Portuguese.
